Episcopalians Chosen to Lead Panel at SXSW

The Rev. Merrill Wade at 2013 SXSW

The SXSW Music Conference announced round 2 of their panel discussions planned for the annual event in Austin. Among the 44 chosen is a panel discussion entitled "Still Can't Find Your Way Home," which will be led by the Rev. Merrill Wade of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church and Dr. Greg Garrett, a lay minister at St. David's, Austin, and author of The Gospel According to U2.

The panel will focus on the challenges musicians face finding and keeping community while touring and working nights and weekends.  According to the SXSW submission page, "Merrill and Greg will discuss these challenges with touring musicians who will join the panel and share their stories. Greg will talk about the efforts of U2 to build community together and we'll take a look at an Austin program led by Merrill intentionally trying to create community for musicians."

In collaboration with St. Matthew's and Spicewood Tavern, Wade hosts the weekly Soul of Musician Series, a concert series in which attendees interact with the artist(s), seeking to discover some of the deeper, more soulful themes of the music. This panel will mark Wade's third time participating in SXSW. In the spring of 2013, he participated in a panel called "Into the Mystic: Secular Music as a Quest for More."
