New Ways To Communicate Our Commitment To Safe Spaces

Posted by The Rev. Canon Lisa Hines on

We train leaders in our organizations to establish safe standards of behavior for ministry and to create a “village” of watchful eyes that make it less likely that misconduct can occur unnoticed. As we know, however, misconduct can be difficult to detect, and it can target people in our communities who may be unaware of our commitment to providing safe physical and emotional spaces for everyone. To communicate that commitment more broadly, a “Report Misconduct” button has been added to the home page of epicenter.org, and a Report Misconduct poster has been mailed to all heads of congregations, college ministries, schools, and other organizations, along with Bishop Doyle’s direction to display the poster prominently wherever community news is posted. The poster encourages people to contact the head of organization with their concerns so that they can be addressed appropriately. In the case of clergy misconduct, however, people are instructed to report directly to the Diocese. The posters are also available electronically to allow you to print additional copies and to include the information on your website and in newsletters or bulletins. If your organization has not received a poster, please contact Danielle Tatro in the Safeguarding Office.
