Wellness in Ministry
Practicing wellness means reaching for abundant life despite the limitations or disabilities that we cannot control. No matter our age, we are called to love and serve with the fullness of our being. Wellness ministries encourage our communities to seek wholeness and balance by tending to their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health.
Examples of wellness ministries include:
- a health fair or yoga class to improve the body's strength and resilience
- Brené Brown's Daring Way™ curriculum to increase the capacity for authentic relationships and creative expression
- teaching stewardship of personal finances to reduce stress and organize our lives in accordance with gospel values
- teaching mindfulness practices to deepen spiritual awareness
- 12-step recovery programs to restore balance in our relationship to God, to others, and to ourselves
- Living Compass Wellness Circles to encourage growth in different wellness areas
- Mental Health First Aid workshops to grow our ability to respond to signs of mental illness and mental crisis
We encourage ministry leaders to be intentional about incorporating wellness practices into existing ministries and including wellness as an objective of new ministries. Support for some types of wellness ministries, including training and resources, can be found at EHF Learning Opportunities.
The Wellness and Care team of the Diocese wants to know what wellness ministries are happening in your congregation so that we can share best practices and celebrate your successes.
